Composite and hardwood decks, built properly from the frame up.
I manage the whole job myself, from the first quote through to handover.

A local carpenter based on the Mornington Peninsula.

I'm Lloyd, a carpenter on the Mornington Peninsula, and decks are one of my favourite jobs. I build composite and hardwood decks of every size - small landings off the back door, big entertaining decks, pool surrounds and elevated decks on sloping blocks - and I take the same care on all of them.
A good deck turns your backyard into the favourite room of the house, but how long it stays that way comes down to the work you don't see once the boards are on.
The boards are what everyone sees, but the substructure decides whether your deck is still flat and solid in ten or twenty years. That's the part I take my time on: footings set properly, joists levelled and spaced to suit the boards you've chosen, and every screw lined up and driven flush.

Composite boards like Modwood give you the look of timber without the upkeep, with no oiling, no splinters and no rot to worry about. They usually cost more up front than timber, but there's very little to do once they're down, which is why they suit holiday homes and rentals that need to look good without much maintenance.

Hardwoods like merbau, spotted gum, and blackbutt give you real timber grain and warmth, and they're a classic choice for Peninsula homes. They need a fresh coat of oil every so often to hold their colour, and in return you get a deck that ages the way real timber should.
Call today and we'll discuss what I'd recommend to use and why.
Off the house, sized for the way you actually use the space
That handle wet feet and full sun
With stairs and balustrades in timber, stainless wire or frameless glass
Built over them, flat or pitched
For doorways and changes in level
That have gone soft, loose or tired
I come out, measure up, check the levels and talk through how you want to use the space, then send you a written quote.
We settle on the boards, the balustrade and any stairs or pergola.
If your deck requires a permit, I'll support you in getting what we need to start the project.
The part that decides how long your deck lasts.
All the components are brought together to build your dream deck.
Hardwood decks get oiled, the site gets cleaned up, and we walk through it together.
Most decks take 3-6 weeks from start to finish, and you'll get a timeline with the quote.

It depends on the size, how high it sits off the ground, the boards you choose and extras like stairs, balustrades and a pergola. I'll give you a written quote after a site visit, so you're working from a real number.
Composite will be a much better investment long term, it's pre finished and can handle sun exposure a lot better than hardwood can. Hardwood protective coatings like oils or vanishes used to protect and extend the lifespan of the boards often require ongoing maintenance from UV exposure to ensure the boards are sealed and don’t rot.
Some decks need a building permit, depending on things like how high they are and where they sit on the block. If you're unsure, get in touch and we can discuss if your project will need one.
Deck jobs differ in duration depending on size, material, and whether there are existing foundations to work from. Typically a deck will fall within the 3-6 week range to complete.
Yes. I build pergolas and carports too, flat or pitched, and doing the deck and pergola together is usually the simplest way to get them working as one space.
I'm based on the Mornington Peninsula and work across Mornington, Mount Eliza, Mount Martha, Dromana, Safety Beach, McCrae, Rosebud, Capel Sound, Tootgarook, Rye, Blairgowrie, Sorrento, Portsea and Main Ridge, plus the surrounding Peninsula.
Give me a call or send me a photo of your space and I'll talk you through what's possible.
